The purpose of this family project is to determine relatedness of families with names like Robblee, Rublier, Rapalje and other spelling variants. In early New York, families with these names lived in close proximity to each other and depending on the language spoken, these names can sound very similar. The spelling of names in old documents depended on the clerk who wrote the record and spelled the name the way it sounded. It has long been a question, whether these families are indeed descendants of a common ancestral origin or completely separate. Therefore, we have created this project and invite all family members to join us in hopes of finally solving this 300 year old mystery.
