Any male with the surname READER or variant is welcome to join our Surname Project by having their Y chromsome DNA tested. We encourage you to have at least 25 markers identified, but there are also 12 and 37 marker tests (see options and prices below).
The READER name is traced to the marshy coastal areas of Norfolk, England, where reeds were gathered and skill was applied to thatch roofs by men who were called REEDER or REDER or READER.
We expect to find other lines as well, and one of the goals of our Project is to differentiate these through DNA.
