About us

2006 Feb 1 - the RASEY Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project was opened.

2011 May 1 - as of this date, we have three members representing the two major New England progenitors:  one is a descendant of the Joseph RASEY I who married Mary HOLLON and the other two are descendants of the Joseph RAZEE I who married Sarah WHIPPLE and Mercy (nee WHITE?) DAVIS.  The two RAZEE's match each other, but they do not match the RASEY.

2011 June 22 - the descendant of Joseph RASEY I has been accepted into the WTY program, on a search for new SNPs.

2011 Oct 30 - results have returned for the WTY test, and three new SNPs were discovered:  L800, L801, and V218.2.  Two of these have turned out to be synonymous with previously known SNPs, but L801 is turning out to be a new subclade of I2b1 (M223), one separating the "continental" STR clusters from other I2b1 STR clusters.  A big "thank you" to our member for providing a valuable new SNP!  His WTY results also show him positive for another previously known SNP, L380, and that he has six alleles at DYS464, which had not turned up on his standard test.

2011 Nov 29 - one of the RAZEE's has tested the three new SNPs, and he, too, is positive for all three; however, he has turned up negative for L380.  This result (i.e., a difference in SNP haplogroup subclade, not just a large STR genetic distance) further confirms that the descendants of Joseph RAZEE I and Joseph RASEY I are not closely related.

2012 Feb 1 - results have returned for a second paper descendant of Joseph RASEY I, this one through Joseph's son, Silas RASEY.  He is a match with the other descendant of Joseph RASEY I, who descends through Joseph's son, John RASEY.  This match removes the specter of an NPE in either line and further confirms that Joseph RASEY I cannot have been a son of Joseph RAZEE I.

2015 Mar 28 - site is converted to new FTDNA format.

2018 Dec 28 - the two descendants of Joseph RASEY I have a strong match with two PALMERTONs and a PARMETER.  It's looking like the RASEYs have the NPE, which puts a different interpretation on the non-match between Joseph RASEY I's descendants and those of Joseph RAZEE I.  In other words, it really was an NPE from the start.
