The Ramages of Laurens County, South Carolina were one of the earliest Ramage families to settle in the United States of America. By 1720, members of the family had settled in Newcastle County, Deleware. Members of the family later migrated to Pennsylvania before John Ramage migrated to what is now Laurens County, South Carolina during the 1760's. Our line of the Ramage family is thought to have migrated to the United States from Ireland. We not only welcome all male descendants who carry the Ramage name (even from other Ramage lines in order to determine a relationship) but also those who have the mtDNA from Capt. Joseph Ramage and wife, Elizabeth Bourland; Elizabeth Ramage Ewing; James Ramage and wife, Margaret; Mary Ramage Dillard; Josiah Ramage and wife, Dorothy; and Benjamin Ramage and wife, Eleanor. NOTE: We do not know who the wife of Jesse Ramage, son of Capt. Joseph Ramage was. Family tradition says that she was a Native American. We have found several individuals who would have mtDNA from Jesse Ramage's wife. We plan to have mtDNA tests on these individuals as part of this project.
