About us
Initially, the project's goal was to develop a data base of Y-DNA markers that will help identify living relatives and validate lineages of the Rakes family from Buckingham County, Virginia. The Rakes from Buckingham are mostly included in the pedigrees of Henry Rakes, Sr. (1735-1798), Charles Rakes (1740/50-1838) and William Rakes (1750-1831).
This included establishing a connection between the above three Rakes pedigrees of Buckingham to see how they relate to one another. Furthermore, it is hoped that this project will get the interest and support of the English Raikes who trace their ancestry back to the beginning of the 16th century to yeomen farmers in East Riding of Yorkshire.
Currently, the goal is merely to get the connection between the testers (if one exists) who carry this surname.
