Goals

The goals of the project are:
  1. To attempt to determine the relationship between the various male lines - Auld/Oal/Old, Begg, Henderson, Rosie and Ross (ancestral surname Rosie) - represented in the newly discovered haplogroup R-Y61244.
  2. To identify new surnames who may be members of R-Y61244.
Goals Achieved:

a) Kit updates:
  1. Update WDH (Henderson) kit to BigY700. Status: Funded by WDH and achieved in December 2020.
  2. Update IGO (Old) kit to BigY700. Status: Funded by IGO and achieved in January 2023.
  3. Update AMR (Rosie) kit to BigY700. Status: Funded by WDH and achieved in March 2023.
  4. Update AJR (Ross - ancestral surname Rosie) kit to BigY700. Status: Funded by WDH and achieved in May 2023.
Curent Goals:

a) Kit updates:
  1. Update RBB (Begg) kit to BigY700. Status: Not enough DNA remaining, donor deceased.
b) Recruitment for BigY700 testing:
  1. Identify new relative of RBB (Begg).
  2. Identify further Begg relative (ideally 3rd - 5th cousin).
  3. Identify further Henderson relative (ideally 3rd - 5th cousin).
  4. Identify further Old relative (ideally 3rd - 5th cousin).
  5. Identify further Rosie relative (ideally 3rd - 5th cousin).
  6. Identify further Ross relative (ideally 3rd - 5th cousin).
  7. Identify new Auld relatives from Caithness.
  8. Identify new unknown relatives with Caithness ancestry.
