27th April 2023 - Upload of the Archive of Pryde and variants records extracted by the late Ronald Andrew Pryde (1936 – 2022) as prepared and shared by Eve Pryde-Roberts. BACKGROUND – through our shared enjoyment of Pryde research Ron and I found each other in the late 1990’s and worked together consistently until the late 2010’s until Ron’s health deteriorated. In the 1990’s Ron visited New Register House, Edinburgh, the repository of Scottish baptism and marriage records, every week and he extracted the details of those entries which related to the name of Pryde and variants. These are generally known as Old Parish Records or OPR’s.
These records have since been made available as index entries on the ScotlandsPeople website but Ron’s work can still be helpful as he made a concerted effort to include variants which may otherwise be missed, and he also worked out family groupings, listed as Parents, all of which can assist in our research going forward. Ron wanted his work shared with like-minded others after his demise so here is his legacy. If you have any comments or queries regarding any of the entries I will be happy to help if I can, I do have full transcriptions and/or certificates for many entries. NB Please note that the red four-digit letter and number entry alongside some of the records indicates a Parent Group allocated by Ron. Green name entries are the spouse's name suggested by Ron where this information did not exist on the original record. Other information entered in blue is made by Eve either to advise that the information presented has since been amended in the NRH records, or in a few cases a transcription of the document has been added. If you are searching for specific records it may be advisable to search the Parent Groupings first, then back-track to the Marriages and then the Births [Baptisms].
27th April 2023 - LINK created to the Amazon UK website for the book A PRIDE OF PRYDES by EVE PRYDE-ROBERTS. This book is also available on the Amazon website in different countries.
Originally written and published in 2015, with later amendments, the book gives details of research into the Pryde family originating in Scotland in the 17th century until the present day, being some 13 generations of coal miners. This book gives details of a Pryde family line which originated in the eastern counties of Scotland. It outlines the lives of some of the characters and their contemporaries through the generations, showing their trials, tribulations and triumphs. It also includes some general history of coal mining through the centuries, especially in Scotland. The book details how the family spread around the world and their involvement in military conflicts through the years.
