About us

Our surname project, The Prunty* Project, may be a Paternal DNA project but it is not a men only affair at all. We need Y-DNA from families in the origin areas and representatives of the diaspora to build this into something meaningful to all Pruntys as the Surname typically follows the Paternal line. Having said that Maternal and Autosomal DNA will be essential in connecting those Prunty* lineages without Paternal samples and this is currently happening organically across ancestry DNA databases.

I encourage everyone to tell me of their Prunty* Trees and hopefully we'll build a paper tree to surpass the DNA. I look forward to hearing from you. The goal of this project is to link all existing albeit unknown Prunty* family trees around the world using both the paper trail and the DNA and to ultimately organise a Prunty* Gathering in the future.

Specifically, the most commonly asked question is whether Pruntys became the Brontes and if so which lines and how closely are they related?

Another common question is how the line of John Prunty of Pruntytown is related to the tree and who was Barnabus Prunty?

The other question that comes up is the relation to the clontibret Prunty line in Monaghan. This line seems exist from the 1500s and is one of the oldest lines we have. Pruntys still live there today.

If you have any other goals, let me know.
