Project Description The objective of this dual geographic lineage project is to grow additional limbs on our ancestral tree using the results of both Y-DNA and mtDNA testing. Historical records from the 1700's have identified our paternal line in Wongrovitz County, Posen Province, Prussia(Germany), now known as Wagrowiec, Wielkopolskie, Poland. Our objective is to determine the family tree of Paul Schmidt and Anna Catarine Sommerfeld. Identified sons of Paul are Gottfried(born about 1775) and Martin(about 1770). Identified sons of Martin(about 1770) are Michael(1798), Martin(1799), Gottlieb(1802) and Johann(1805). Identified sons of Martin(1799) are August(1828), Ludwig(1830), Friedrich(1840) and Christhof(1842). August(1828) and his family immigrated to Texas in 1873. Historical records from the 1700's have identified our maternal line in Deutsch Krone County, West Prussia, Prussia(Germany), now known as Walcz County, Wielkopolskie, Poland. Our objective is to determine the family tree of Johann Hoppe(1841) and Albertina Nickel(1838). Identified ancestors of Johann are August(1812) and Michail(about 1772). Parents of Albertina were Johann Nickel(1793) and Elizabeth Kaatz(Abt 1808). We recommend the Y-DNA37 test and the mtDNAPlus test for this project. If you have Y-DNA Haplogroup, I1c, and think you might be a member of a paternal line originating from within someone in this project or your line goes back further than 1750, you are invited to join.
