The Pomerantz Project was established as a project of the Pomerantz Cousins Club (www.pomerantz.org). The club consisted of the descendents of David Charles Pomerantz of Pruzana, Poland. With the establishment of the Pomerantz Cousins club's website, Herschel Sheiness, founder of the Pomerantz Project, received many e-mails from people with the surname of Pomerantz (or a close variant) wanting to know if we were related to them. After exchanging family background information the answer was always “Regretfully not.” This lead to the idea by the club administrators, in 2005, to set up the DNA account and create a DNA research project on FamilyTreeDNA.com. The idea of this Pomerantz DNA Project is to see if there are DNA connections with other Pomerantz descendants not necessarily known as David Charles Pomerantz' descendants. Over the years we have learned of several other Pomerantz families from the Pruzana (aka Pruzhany) region who may or may not be related to the David Charles Pomerantz. This project enable us to better map out the different family and find connections. While the Pomerantz Cousins Club per say no longer exists, the Pomerantz DNA Project is continuing the work of bring Pomerantz family members together.
