The Pickerel project is open to anyone who is researching a Pickerel surname or its many variant spellings. Our primary focus is on YDNA, but we also have some MTDNA testers as well. So far our YDNA results have divided into 4 different groups. Group 1 descends from immigrants that are first documented in Maryland in the mid to late 1600. Group 2 represents what I will call the Quaker Pickrells that are first found in Guillford, NC. in 1771. Group 3 is represented by William Pickerel who was first documented in Greenville, SC in 1796. Group 4 are those that we have matched up yet. We know there are more Pickerel groups out there. When more information is found on these groups, it will be posted. As more members join our group, better group analysis can be made. The Pickerel Project is meant to be a learning process for all that are involved.
