About us

The principle purpose of this project is to further explore the history, family, and genetics of John Pettit (1608), an early Pilgrim immigrant to New England who eventually settled in Stamford, CT. Early branches can be found in CT, Long Island, and Saratoga, NY. John Pettit has long been thought to have been a brother to Thomas Pettit of England who also came over to New England and settled on Long Island. Y-DNA have proven these two families to be unrelated, thus this new project. As of March 2023, we have one "upstream" family of cousins that points to a possible origin in Suffolk, England. This needs further exploration.
