About us
This project is open to all Parkison, Parkinson and all other variants of the surname. As test results are received they will be arranged in groups according to genetic matches.
One of the goals of this project is to establish, what the relationship was/is between the various Parkison, Parkinson families , that were in Pennsylvania, and Ireland in 1700 - 1800’s. The members of Lineage1 share a common ancestor, but we have yet to establish who he was.
There are early records of Parkison/Parkinson also in Virginia, Maryland, New Hampshire, Delaware, Connecticut and Ohio. We hope to make connection with descendants of these families, to establish if there are any genetic connections, and to other lines of Scotland and England and throughout the world. By comparing these results, we hope to learn where to focus our efforts.
In addition, we hope to confirm the results of our genealogy research.
New goals will be set for the different groupings as new test results are received and opportunities arise. If you are looking to break down a brick wall, look into this possibility. This is an interesting new tool for genealogists to use. DNA and a good paper trail go hand-in-hand. Testing may prove or disprove weak documentation of a link to a suspected distant cousin. DNA can remove those doubts.
Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. Since surnames are passed down from father to son like the Y-chromosome, this test is for males taking a Y-DNA test. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA and acquire a new surname by way of marriage, so the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, or Y-DNA67 marker test. Females who would like to check their direct paternal line can have a male relative with this surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNA or the mtDNAPlus test and participate in an mtDNA project.
Surnames In This Project
Parkison, Parkinson, Parkerson, Parkson, Parkis

In order to confirm research and/or find a match to your ancestry, DNA is much more successful at the 37 or 67 marker level is establishing a more secure relationship match: (Very Tightly Related, Tightly Related, Related, Probably Related, Possible Related). You will always be able to "Refine" (Upgrade) your makers to a higher level at a later date. However, depending on an individual’s level of expenditure, the following is offered by FamilyTreeDNA based on current rates:
