My GedMatch ID is T534448. Feel free to compare my ID with your own to see if we match and, if so, by how much. If we share a surname in this project, we may be able to find our common ancestor.

When comparing Doris Wheeler/ FN19709 and myself on gedmatch: Largest segment = 12.2 cM Total of segments > 7 cM = 12.2 cM Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 5.1 Minimum threshold size to be included in total = 700 SNPs Mismatch-bunching Limit = 350 SNPs Minimum segment cM to be included in total = 7.0 cM My gedmatch # is T613032 but I am still waiting on my matches so I do not believe it is public yet.

Autosomal (Family Finder) testing requires interaction among matches. We must communicate in order to find our common ancestors. As we share our pedigrees, evaluate our matching DNA segments, and study other potential matches, we will all learn more about our own genealogy. Please feel free to post questions here and become involved.

Doris, I have done almost every test available. And I follow directions well. I'm FTDNA 123922. I've done GEDCOMS but they never permitted me to read them. I suspect we do match. However . . .

Vandall, I'm so sorry but I don't understand your question. How can I help? You seem to have made contact with some of your Family Finder matches and found how you are related with some of them. It's very sad that so few people upload their trees and, if they do, they provide very little information. Genealogy is so important to make DNA testing work effectively. If a tree is green, you should be able to see it. Otherwise, the person has not posted one. The new privacy rules at FTDNA have also created some major problems. If people do not know that they must "opt in" to have their results publicized, those results are hidden. You and I do not match in Family Finder. To expand your matches, it's always a good idea to upload your raw data to www.gedmatch.com, a free service that compiles DNA results from all three companies and GEDCOMs too. It therefore provides an expanded database and also some great tools for analyzing your matches. Many people test with all three companies -- fish in all the ponds -- to find relatives who have tested elsewhere. Please write to me directly if you have questions: doriswh@gmail.com.

In case you haven't noticed, FTDNA has made important changes to its privacy policy. Your test results may no longer be visible unless you opt in. For more information, please see http://dna-explained.com/2015/07/27/family-tree-dna-new-privacy-settings/.
