About us

***  Please, only request membership in this project if you have taken or are ordering the Family Finder test.  We don't do anything with Y-DNA or mtDNA test results.    ***

This project was started in April of 2014 with the intent of trying to help researchers with roots in the Old Newberry District of South Carolina who have taken the Family Finder test.   No doubt we all have "black holes" in our research whereby an ancestor is completely unknown or perhaps the maiden name of a female ancestor is unknown.  Autosomal DNA matches could potentially help with those black holes, but you have to identify the match as being relevant first.   When surnames are not known, how can someone who's taken the Family Finder test and has hundreds of matches know a match could be relevant based on geography?    I will attempt to use this project to help with this problem although the tools I have are scant right now.

Of help is that you can search for matches within a project.  Here are the instructions how:

  1. Put your cursor over the My DNA option on the main toolbar, and then over Family Finder
  2. Left click on Advanced Matching
  3. Check off Family Finder, and then in the drop-down box for "Show Matches For," changing the selection from "The Entire Database" to "Old Newberry District."
  4. Click the orange "Run Report" button.

This will work for searching for matches within any project.
