The Oddy/Oddie DNA Project welcomes all participants. We encourage you to join today!.
Our project is still small, but we hope to have exciting discoveries, or at least to help project members get the most out of their test results.
Participating is an opportunity to uncover information not provided in the paper records that can help with your research of your family tree. We will also discover which family trees are related. As the project progresses, the results for the various family trees will provide information on the evolution of the surname.
The surnames in this DNA Project may also be researched as part of the Oddy One-Name Study. The Oddy surname is believed to be of Viking origin. Feel free to contact the Group Administrator, to learn more about the research accumulated relating to the Oddy /Oddie surname.
The Y DNA test tells you about your direct male line, which would be your father, his father, and back in time. You must be male to take this test, and you should have one of the surnames shown. If you believe there is a Oddy or variant in your direct male line, although you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. We encourage males who order a Y DNA test to order 37 markers, if possible. If you ordered fewer markers, you can upgrade. Big Y test results can provide you with information on "deep ancestry," your connections to the men with whom you have the closest connections, no matter how distant. If enough men within the same family obtain Big Y results, those can show branches within the modern era.

You are invited to join the project even if you do not have a direct male-line Oddy or Oddie connection. FTDNA "FamilyFinder" results, which test chromosome pairs 1-22, may show matches with whom you share Oddy / Oddie connections.
If you are female, you're welcome to join, and we encourage you to find a male relative with the Oddy or Oddie and to get them to join.

Both males and females may also be interested in learning about their direct female line, which would be their mother, their mother's mother, and back in time. You would order a mtDNA test. For matches in a genealogical time frame, order the mtDNA Plus test. That test, of course, tells you nothing further about your Oddie/Oddy patrilineal connections.
