The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society is pleased to offer DNA testing at group discount prices to our members.

Please note that although this is called the G&B's "surname project," there is no plan at present to create a database of NYG&B members' DNA results. Our goal is to give you the opportunity to take advantage of FTDNA's great discounts for groups and then use the results as you wish. There are various exciting opportunities to do so.

You can choose to post your results to FamilyTreeDNA's large database of thousands of other individuals. You will be advised about family connections to any other person in the database.

If you like, you can also join or start a surname or geographical project.

You can post your results to Y-Search, mitoSearch, and other international DNA databases.

You may be able to find recent or distant common ancestors with others in these databases, giving you the opportunity to work together on family research.

DNA testing for lines of descent (male to male or female to female) will give a picture of the genetic signatures of your families.

The potential results of DNA testing are extraordinary. They can confirm and add to genealogical research you've done--or take you back thousands of years, beyond surnames, beyond anything possible through genealogical research.

DNA testing will also allow you to go back in time, through thousands of years of migration.

DNA testing can quickly shed new light on your genealogy and the migration pattern of your family.
