About us
This project is open to those who's Y-DNA (father's father's father's...) or Mt-DNA (mother's mother's mother's...) line extends to New Mexico. It is understood that it was the custom in Colonial Spanish America to pass along a surname that may have come from the maternal side. With this in mind, with DNA it is possible to see relationships between people of different Surnames which would extend back to rather small gene pool some 400 years ago just after the first Conquest of New Mexico by Juan de Onate in 1598. These ancestors having the most descendants in New Mexico.
If you have taken the DNA test and would like to post the results or have any questions about this project, please contact the Project Administrator by e-mail.
