About us
All testers who belong to mitochondrial (mtDNA) haplogroup K should join this active project where we share knowledge and ask and answer questions. Most members of this project have already taken an mtDNA, mtDNA Plus, or mtFull Sequence test at FamilyTreeDNA, iGENEA, or Geno that assigned them to K.
As a way of supplementing your mtDNA Discover pages, if you have your result from the mtFull Sequence test, we can help you learn more about your mutations, your branch on the new MitoTree, whether you have something unique that no other tester has, and the possible geographic origin of your haplogroup. Even if you haven't yet been assigned your MitoTree haplogroup name, as long as you have your "classic" PhyloTree haplogroup name and your list of mutations, we can tell you what your current positions are on the MitoTree, YFull MTree, and mitoLEAF.
We let members know about the latest scientific studies into haplogroup K and their new K samples. We also discuss K samples that exist in external public databases of ancient DNA and modern DNA and can guide you in the understanding of their population distributions and how close some of those samples may be to your mtDNA sequence.
