About us

This project goes back many years and was previously hosted by the now defunct World Families. This is my maiden name and back in the 1970's I corresponded with the editor of the "People of the Marsh" Charles Recker.

I am attempting to organize and make it easier to find your connections. Since most information was lost during the conversion please feel free to contact me directly.

The largest Grouping to date is the Bavarian MOSERS Haplogroup I who descend from Maria and Hans MOSER who immigrated during the early 1600's from Catholic Lower Austria to Bavaria (Bayern), Germany (Mittlefranken). The area they settled was home to earlier MOSERS in the 1500's so it is unclear whether they were returning to an earlier homeland. There is no evidence that this group was descended from the oft quoted Hans MOSSIMAN of Switzerland. Hans & Maria had 3 sons: Hans Adam, Johann Phillip and Johann Michael MOSER. There has been much confusion about these brothers and their offspring. Of that confusion the most difficult is Hans Adam MOSER who was married 3 times and had a total of 16 children! Of the 16, 5 died young without issue. Of the remaining 11 children two immigrated on the "James Goodwill" (Johann Martin & Johann Adam MOSER). Five immigrated together on the "Adventure" ( Eva MOSER LORENTZ, Johann George Phillip MOSER, Johann Michael MOSER, Tobias MOSER, and Johann Leonard MOSER). So that leaves 4 daughters that may have stayed in Germany or immigrated under their married names. This line was very prolific and many descendants in the USA share atDNA and I welcome atDNA results.

Looking at the results pages you can see several other groupings including a branch of English MOSHERS.

We have many additional Groupings and I welcome information on the origins of each.

MOSER is a very common name in Austria and I expect some of these groups have their roots there.

If you are in the grouping from Bavaria to Pennsylvania these posts may be of interest. They track the family of Johan 'Martin' MOSER and his father, Adam's family, back in Germany
