About us
Miles Morgan emigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony and joined the community of Springfield by 1643/4. He married twice, had nine children and many grandchildren before his death in 1699. His few thousand descendants include authors, businessmen, engineers, farmers, financiers, military and naval officers, industrialists, philanthropists, statesmen and a few very dedicated genealogists.
Since the late 1700’s, much money and time has been dedicated to answering the question of who Miles’ forbearers were and where he came from. Yet Miles’ origins remain shrouded in legend, with no solid underlying proof: he was most likely from Wales by way of Bristol, but possibly from Scotland, Ireland or Germany.
The Miles Morgan Origins Project has gathered all previous and current research publically available touching on this question, and gone as far as possible on paper. It now works to determine Miles’ Y DNA profile, with the intent of searching his likely points of origin for living descendants of Miles’ ancestors matching the profile.
If you believe that you (or your close Y DNA-carrying relation) may be descended from Miles Morgan, please join this project and support the search. A Morgan Surname Project also exists, which we encourage you to also join if you are interested in wider Morgan studies.
