About us
Our goal here is to gain a better understanding as to the origin of the Merithew, Merrithew, Merihew, Merrihew, Maryhew, etc families.
We seek to test the hypothesis that Teeg Amarahow, a 17th century settler of Yarmouth, Massachusetts and presumably the earliest settler of the family, might have been a Murphy or in other terms Tadgh O'Moroghoe. Teeg's descendants bore the aformentioned surnames this project is focused on.
As of 06/15/22 one Merithew has tested their Y DNA to the Big Y 700 and shares a most recent common ancestor with one of the more recent branches of the Modal Murphy family of the Murphy DNA project.
