The goal of the Project is to expand genealogical research into the McAlpin, McAlpine, etc. (various spellings) hereditary lines to identify common ancestral connection.  While the major focus of the project is on Y-DNA (the genetic trail of one's paternal ancestors), those who have a McAlpin, McAlpine, etc. connection through their mtDNA (one's maternal ancestors) line of ancestral connection are also encouraged to participate. The DNA testing is done by the Family Tree DNA.
