About us

Hi everyone!
Just need to touch base on the changes due to the GDPR [General Data Protection Regulation].

1) All members will be able to see each other per GDPR, however it is up to each member if they
want their data visible to general public. This data is generally kit#, Oldest known pat
or mat ancestor, place data for the ancestors, DNA results such as Haplogroup and STR
matching when grouped. This is for both MtDna tests and Y-Dna tests. A member may decide
at any time to disallow such access by stating that they would like all data removed from
  group.

2) There are 3 access levels which can be chosen by each owner of the test/(s) for access of
  administrator of a project.

3) Participation within the group project is by personal choice and not dependent upon
access level given. We welcome all regardless of test or access level granted.

4) As with basic group data, complete removal of any data used in connection with the
  project is available upon request.

5) Data may be stored on an independent backup or computer which is fire-walled and password
protected at the administrator level, independent of FTDNA. This allows for research critical
to developing the pathways to the associated members of our project. Any data at this level
also may be deleted upon request.

Access Levels

A] The most restrictive is Group Access Only. This allows administer of the project
to utilize the administrator member matrix tool and generalized project data within the project
pages only, but does not allow administrator to see any of your FTDNA pages, hence
your entire data is not revealed to administrator. Please be aware though that this option
does allow administrator to see your "In Common With Matches" between yourself and other project
members through the use of the matrix tool.

B] Mid restrictive is Limited Access. This level allows administrator to access your FTDNA pages,
hence an administer is able to actively seek pathways to the project utilizing the genetic based
DNA testing results. Administrator can't make any changes to your pages, but can view Matches,
Chromosome Browser, Family Tree, In Common With, My Origins, FTDNA tester name, tests taken
  and contact data.

C] Least restrictive is Full Access. This allows an administrator to actively co-manage
your test account, order tests or alter personal information except primary email address
  and password.

Having passed this information to all current members, as well as posting on the news tab and
  activity feed of our project-

1- I would ask that any who have "full access" please change this to limited access.
There is no need for this administrator to have full access to any except the actual kits I
administrate privately. I am easily able to utilize limited access functions and make progress
  in our project.

2- Please be aware that posting on the activity feed allows general public to access any data
one might have placed on this feed. If there is sensitive data on living persons, DNA data
or email addresses one would like to keep private- please edit the post removing such data.
If it is data on yourself specifically a group member may either leave the data up or edit.

If preferred all can exchange data they would like me to have, through my email directly in
  order to protect sensitive data.

3- I have been seeing some cross matching with some members of our project. A feature I would like
would be- to post these groupings under our results page. The groupings would only contain members
by their kit numbers and the estimated relationship to their "in common with match" - while leaving
their "in common with match" nameless. Such as Kit #111111 & kit #2222222 have a 3rd cousin match
in common, etc... This will allow some results to be known while staying mindful of GDPR.

Back to the research for now!

Thanks again everyone for being a part of the project! Jeanette
