About us

The McCubbin Y-DNA Project welcomes all male McCubbin participants. However, this project is solely for Y-DNA testers of McCubbin or McCubbin related surnames. The surnames in this DNA Project are researched as part of the McCubbin one-name study. You can learn more about this significant research, and the the associated family trees, by visiting the one-name study web site. A word about Y-DNA the project utilizes: Both males and females possess 22 pairs of autosomal chromosomes. This is the type of DNA utilized in FTDNA's Family Finder and most other common commercial DNA tests. Females possess two X chromossomes, and males possess an X and Y chromosome. It is this male Y chromosome that the project focuses on. The Y DNA test tells you about your direct male line, which would be your father, his father, and back in time. You must be male to take this test, and you should have one of the surnames shown. If you believe there is a McCubbin or variant in your direct male line, although you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. If you are female, you will need to find a direct line male in your family tree to participate and represent your tree. Please also check out www.mccubbinfamily.info for McCubbin family history. Please contact the administrator at rmccubbin@tuta.io with any questions about the Y-DNA Project.
