DNA Test - Discount Coupon Codes

Family Tree DNA will offer discounts for various tests periodically, especially during the holidays, (check November through December) and various times during the year.  Go to the main FTDNA website to view discount offers.

If no sales are currently showing on the FTDNA website, please contact Terry McAtee at blehman54@comcast.net to see if I might have a coupon code that would reduce your cost.

Haplogroup R-M222:  Several of our YDNA tested McAtees are descendants of Patrick and Rosamond McAtee (MD abt 1674) and are in Haplogroup: R-M222 : terminal SNP S588

Note: Check the photo section for a Haplogroup Tree which includes S588, and go to this link for R-S588 in the Big Tree by Alex Williamson: http://www.ytree.net/DisplayTree.php?blockID=8

For more information, I recommend that if you are a male who is a descendant of this family group, and has had a YDNA test with results that show relationship with current members: join the R-M222 and Subclades Haplogroup Project.  If you are a female, you can join by proxy if you administer a male relatives's kit. Members of this family group may also join the R-L21 and Subclades Haplogroup (see the information below)

SNP S588 – comments by Paul Duffy, Administrator, Ireland yDNA Project   September 28, 2015

..."Indeed, in context of DF105, both DF85 and S588 are showing a mix of "Ulster" (in historical period "Ulster"was actually restricted to east of River Bann due to Northern Uí Néill encroachment) and Scottish distribution. What we must remember is that from period of say 500 (probably early but definitely from 500 AD) onward that Ireland and Scotland were tightly knit together due to common linguistic area. You could travel from Kerry in the South to the very north of Scotland and encounter various "dialects" of one common linguistic area. As a result there was movement in both directions within this common "Gaeldom", something that continued in later medieval period with arrival of first Gallowglasses (from mid 13th century, earliest record is 1259)from the Western Isles and then into early modern period where there were yearly "migrations" of "Redshanks" plying their trade as mercenaries to Gaelic lords in Ireland (16th century). Of course the question does arise about when did DF85, S588 (and also A259) first arise and where."

Haplogroup R-L21: Also, we have two members who are in Haplogroup R-L21, although they are not closely related to each other.

For more information, I recommend that if you are a male with a YDNA test and are positive for R-L21: join the R-L21 and Subclades Haplogroup Project. If you are a female, you can join by proxy if you administer a male relatives's kit. Since the R-L21 Haplogroup is highter on the DNA 'tree' than R-M222, McAtee surnamed men who are R-M222+ can also join the R-L21 and Subclades Haplogroup Project.

DNA Results: Your YDNA results will be included in the section tables as soon as they are available.

Currently, FTDNA does not provide tables for Autosomal DNA results.

If you cannot see your results in the project after a reasonable period of time:

Check your personal page privacy settings to make sure that your information is allowed to be included in the project.

Sign into your Family Tree DNA personal home page.

On the left of your home page there should be a link in orange text under your name "Manage Personal Information”.  Click on that link.

Check your settings to make certain they are set correctly to allow for project participation.

Map of Matches

If you look at your map of matches, be aware that if your match did not enter a location for earliest ancestor, that earliest ancestor will have an automatic location of 0'0' which is on the south-east coast of Africa.

And the same applies to your entry on their map if you do not enter a location for your ancestors.
