About us
From Andrea Massion
I have been researching my family's genealogy since the early 1990's and this amazing hobby has rewarded me with years of travel and research, supportive friends and colleagues, and the opportunity to write and publish. During this adventure, I have discovered two other branches of the Massions who are Jewish and who we thought to have perished in the Holocaust. One of these branches remained in the Ukraine until Soviet Jews were finally able to leave the USSR safely. This branch's members now live in New York, Israel, Kiev and Australia. Anna Massion has agreed to be a co-administrator of this DNA project, and her father Peter is one of the "guinea pigs" in these initial stages, along with my brother Mark.
The second branch began as a family legend. "A Massion family came to visit us in Wyoming (1908-1932) and had 3 daughters. They had come from Argentina and were headed to Canada..." In the fall of 2010, Mordy Rubin of Neve Tsuf, wrote to say he had found my website via Jewishgen.org and that his mom was one of the 3 sisters! Prior to that, another Jewishgen.org member had led me to HER cousins in Argentina whose mother was a Massion. I have recently put Mordy in touch with his Argentina cousins who live in Beer Sheva and Buenos Aires. The internet is a wonderful tool for genealogy! Soon we will have a reunion of all three branches, hopefully in Israel.
This DNA study began has an instrument of proof that our 3 branches are in deed, related. Now I'd like to take my research to the next level in DNA studies. How?
I'm calling on all Massions (Belgium, Germany, France and ???) to join our project here. Simply purchase a kit at the 37 marker or 67 marker, follow the mouth-swabbing directions with the oldest living Massion male in your branch or family (or you) and mail it back to the Family Tree Lab. Yes, it's $, but $ well-spent. Together, we can find out as much of the history of our Surname as possible. All info is at Familytreedna.com. You'll also have access to other matches in the database and more. Have I convinced you yet? I hope so. Thanks and looking forward,

Massion DNA Project Goal: To rally and invite other Massions (Macion/ Mosion) who are not Jewish to join and swab, beginning with the YDNA-37 level at minimum. This only requires ONE MALE sample from a family, preferably the oldest living generation. With these results, we might be able to piece together the origins of the family name and, ideally, create a timeline that was unfathomable 10 years ago. (Or at least have an excuse to travel!)
