About us

Thank you all for making the Maryland DNA Project a success! Of the mt-DNA Results, many male members who were tested have not identified their maternal line. If you don't know where they originated, that's OK, just put in your grandmother's name and where she was born. Maybe someone will have more information for you. If you only know the location, that is valuable information, too. And if your grandmother didn't live in Maryland, that information may help someone.

Y-DNA testing can prove you either do or do not have the correct family listed in your genealogy. There are many family surname lines with the same first names. Researchers get misdirected and end up in the wrong family! Y-DNA testing can correct years of misleading information fed to us on the web. You can be a major part of correcting this, by being tested.

If you find yourself one of a group of different surnames, it may be helpful to know that in Wales and many Scandinavia countries, the surname was a form of that person's father's first name which changed every generation until they came to America where the second name became the surname for all descendants of that person.

For deeper charts to analyze your DNA, you may download your raw data and X raw data (you need both files) at the link for your Family Fnder information, to upload it at GEDmatch.com where you can match with others who tested at Ancestry DNA and 23 and Me.
