About us

The goal of this project is to help people learn about their Mackler ancestry and to answer questions like the following:
1. Which Mackler descendants am I related to?
2. Where did my Mackler ancestors comes from?
3. Are all Mackler families related?
4. What does our DNA tell us about our surname?

Some of these questions can be answered immediately and others will take some time.

Most people start out taking an autosomal DNA test. This test can help us answer relationship questions within a few generations.

The next step is find direct male descendants that carry the Mackler surname to take a Y DNA test. These tests range from the Y37 to the BigY700. The standard starting test for most people is the Y-DNA-37 test. This can be ordered via the project. Additional testing may include: upgrading to 67 markers or 111 markers, and SNP testing (via the Big Y-700 test).

In order to achieve these goals, there are several things that members can do to help themselves and each other.

1. Fill in your MDKA information (Most Distant Known Ancestor) for both your maternal line and (especially) your paternal line. Surname spelling & birth location are the most important details. Simply click on your name in the top right of your home page after logging in - click on Account Settings - Genealogy - Most Distant Ancestors.
2. Post your Mackler pedigree to the Activity Feed page of the project. This will help other people to connect with you.
3. Add your Ancestral Surnames (click on your name in the top right of your home page after logging in - click on Account Settings - Genealogy - Surnames).

Adding these 3 essential pieces of information to your online presence will maximize the chances of finding long lost cousins and breaking through your Brick Walls.
