Welcome to the LYLES Genetic Genealogy Project

No matter what your surname or how you spell it, if you want to join this project, click HERE, or on the "JOIN REQUEST" link in the dark blue bar at the top of this web page. FTDNA now allows you to join as many projects as you wish.

This is FTDNA's EXCLUSIVE project for
1) PATRILINEAL COUSINS or DESCENDANTS of Ephraim LYLES (d. ~1762).
2) DESCENDANTS of EPHRAIM LYLES (d.~1762) via a woman.

All patrilineal cousins and descendants of Ephraim LYLES belong to Haplogroup I1d. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_I1_(Y-DNA)

If you belong to a different Lyles family or haplogroup, please remove yourself from this Lyles family project and join FTDNA's projects for ALL PEOPLE WITH THE SURNAME LYLES, Liles, etc. at

"The accessibility and affordability of family DNA testing is doubtless the greatest technical advance in the history of genealogical research because -- at long, long last -- we have a tool to break down those brick walls!"

You may order a DNA sample collection kit online or by telephoning Family Tree DNA at (713) 868-1438, 9A-7PM EST, 8A-5PM CST, M-F. Your test results may be available about two months after you submit your sample.

Please:

1) Email an administrator of this project if you want more details about how to order and use your DNA sample collection kit. If you do not join this or another surname project before ordering you may be charged FTDNA's regular prices at http://www.familytreedna.com/products.aspx

2) Upgrade to a Big Y or better NGS test, and have your test results analyzed by www.yfull.com . SNP comparisons can help us identify to which branch of our Lyles family someone belongs better than any STR test can, and whether or not he knows the names of his biological parents. Some members of our genetic family may have other surnames.

3) Encourage members of other families to have their DNA tested too. The more people have their DNA tested, the easier it will be for us to find our kinfolk and the better DNA-testing companies can serve us. "A rising tide lifts all boats".

4) Log in to your FTDNA personal web page and select the Contribute to the Surname Project General Fund link if you want to encourage a distant cousin or someone with your surname who lives in the village from which your ancestors emigrated to have his DNA tested. FTDNA will collect your contribution and use it according to your wishes, e.g., to pay for all or part of the kit of the person you want to help.

That members of this Lyles family now have their own exclusive DNA project may facilitate their genealogical progress, e.g., via contributions to their own General Fund.

Some of the goals of this project are:

1) To use members' DNA test results and pedigrees to determine to which Lyles family and branch thereof each member of this project belongs.

2) To help members of our genetic family to have their DNA tested for genealogical purposes by providing them with information and financial assistance.

3) To make DNA test results more understandable and meaningful to its members. The failure to do this is the most common complaint from DNA test customers. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genealogical_DNA_test.

The history of our ancestors is written in our genes. Correctly interpreted, it is the greatest story ever written.

Remembering our ancestors and family history may help save the civilization we inherited from them.
