About us
This Project was founded by J Lupton to contribute our part to reconstructing DNA human history.
Tests are cheaper when ordered through a project.
In this project, a 12-marker test is okay enough. This costs $59. This will allow comparison to other Luptons who have tested more, so that a good extrapolation can be made, if a DNA match exists with the Project Luptons.
In the DNA there is a part that is transferred from father to son, just like surnames, except better. It could therefore tell you more accurately what your surname should be, or confirm its ancient accuracy. It can tell us what surnames are the most closely related, that is, people who could have been Luptons if the names were started earlier. It can put Luptons on a world Family Tree, telling what haplogroup we belong to. It can tell us if we're all related, and only one person was called Lupton at first, or several. It can help us decide if there are multiple towns sourcing the name Lupton, and encourage speculated locations.
One purpose of this project is to separate Luptons into our individual clades, and match them to their ancient location.
This project has some mini-projects to study the haplogroups Y14050, and PH3649. Please join the project if you belong to one of these. See the R-ZZ10* and Misc Subclades project. This will hopefully be the most comprehensive collection for these very small haplogroups, because I have started actively predicting members and collecting them here. These are the most specific haplogroups known for some Luptons.
We will also speculate on the ancient ethnic affiliation of each Lupton - imagining that they could be Normans, Anglo-Saxons, Jutes, Danes, Romans, Celts, or the ancient inhabitants of Britain. I plan on building trees of these small haplogroups for both themselves and other Luptons to see what other Luptons are like.
We are also interested in ancient traditions of descent, no matter how unreliable. These can be compared to see how old these traditions are, and combined with the traditions of matching surnames. Please share Family Crests, mottoes, Coat of Arms, and any heraldic information, and your pedigree, their religion at the earliest part of the pedigree, and any clan information, to show other Luptons how we separate. This can help us retrieve lost traditions.
We gladly invite the surnames Lipton, Laughton, and other similar names. We intend to determine if Lipton is a different spelling for Lupton. We want to establish a connection between Lupton and Laughton.
DNA matches could be descended from Luptons, if the matching is good enough, or related earlier than the time they started the surname.
Geographically related names are welcome also, such as Kendal.

The project can double as a geographical project for the township of Lupton, in England, and for Luckton in Devon, if anyone wishes to join for that purpose.
See the group for Upton to compare. As they have a group already, they are not expected in this project.
