About us
Introduction
The Y-DNA matches that you have with other people in the Family Tree DNA database are shown on the Y-Results page. To ensure that you are given the very latest version of this information, the list has to be re-created daily by FTDNA by searching the entire database each time you log on, so it may take a short while to do so. Please be patient. Also note, we have created subgroups to place participants in chronological sequence, using the first 12 Mode values in each group, then the next 13 markers. In some instances, there are kits that seem to overlap with adjacent groups. When sorted chronologically, it is easier to see the differences. Since sub-grouping is not an exact science and since some markers mutate more rapidly, you may view the results somewhat different from how we divided the participants. When participants have a strong, supported paper trail, some people may be moved to another subgroup where common ancestors seem to match.
Many people interested in finding that long-lost ancestor, but have run into a brickwall, may find our project and join. The background you furnish and published on this page may be seen by others who may be one of those long-lost relatives. If you will provide me with your background information, starting with your oldest known project ancestor, his son, grandson, greatgrandson, etc., down to the most recent deceased relative, I will post it to this site.
Also, consider being tested with the Family Finder kit, as it provides another arena to find first through 4th cousins, and maybe 5th or so cousins. To match greater than 4th cousin, both of you need to have extensive family history of all the lines connected to you.
