The Lock & Locke Y-DNA Project at Family Tree DNA was established to help identify all unique Locke lineages and to help members connect to others who belong to each lineage. This is why we encourage you to participate in this project to help all of us fully realize the vast scope of our various family lineages. Please note that only men possess the Y-Chromosome and therefore only men can take the Y-Chromosome DNA test. If you wish to participate in this project and you are the mother, wife, daughter or sister of a Locke family, then you must find a male member of your Locke family (husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, etc.) to agree to take this test.

To date almost 100 men have tested and joined the Lock & Locke Y-DNA Project. Those tests have so far revealed 13 family groups and another 25 singular lines. That makes for potentially 37 unique Locke family lineages.

Our Goal at the Lock & Locke Y-DNA Project is to encourage Locke men from all over the world to participate in Y-Chromosome testing to help better define the various lineages and to better understand the deeper ancestral history of our family names. We do that by providing this forum and other resources to help you identify potential members of your particular family line.

With the recent price drop to $49 (US) for Family Tree DNA’s 12 marker Y-DNA test, we feel that now is a perfect time to encourage men from all Lock & Locke families around the world to participate in this project. We hope you will join with us in the search for our family histories
