In English: I have seen the surname Loccisano, Luccisano, and Lucisano and variants throughout the Province of Reggio Calabria and have often wondered if this is the same family. With this in mind, I am hoping to get some Luccisano males and Lucisano males to do a Y-DNA test to see if they match my own Loccisano Y-DNA. If they match, that means we share a common Loccisano/Luccisano/Lucisano male ancestor from the Middle Ages (about year 1550) when last names were given out in Italy, and we indeed are one family, despite having dispersed to several villages in the Province of Reggio Calabria. If we do show the same Y-DNA sequence, then this means that our family grew and spread to other villages in the Province of Reggio Calabria, and in the process, the name changed slightly as migration occured. If other Loccisano, Luccisano, or Lucisano lines show a different Y-DNA than my Loccisano line, that indicates that we are from different families and the Loccisano name was adopted by different families independently when last names were given out in the mid to late 1500s. The name would have spread to different villages by word of mouth and adopted by seperate families. My own Loccisano Y-DNA results show that my Loccisano male line is on Haplogroup G (Branch G) of the Human Male Family Tree that scientists have put together. My particular sequence is seen in the Middle East, Turkey, southern Italy, and Spain---so it is from a male that came from the Mediterranean area. As more samples are gathered from around the world, we will learn more about the history and origins of the man that gave rise to my Loccisano family.
