About us

We hope to solve the mystery of Litzingers, Lutzingers, Leuzingers, Leitzingers and related surnames - how they each relate (or don't relate) and the location where each line originated from.

-Many lines in Switzerland and around the world originate from Johannes Leuzinger/Hans Lütziger b.~1500, who lived in Glarus, Switzerland around 1500-1570. It's possible that they also go back to Wernher von Lutzingen b.~1335 and his son Rudolph Liutzinger von Liuzinge (Rudolph Leuzinger) b.~1360
Spellings: Leuzinger, Leutzinger, Leitzinger, Lusinger
(five descendants have tested)

-Many lines currently in Germany originate from Matthias Lützinger who was born around 1620-35 and lived in Niederzissen, Germany at one point in time
spellings: Lutzinger, Litzinger, Litsinger, Letsinger
(one descendant in Germany has tested)

-Some in Germany and the U.S.A. descend from Burghart Adam Litzinger b.~1764 Völkersbach, Germany. He moved from Germany to the Black Sea region in southern Russia in 1809.
(three descendants have tested)

-Some lines may originate in Austria and moved to Switzerland, Germany, and/or Czech Republic  (there is a town of Litzing in Austria near the German border)
spellings: Litzinger, Lizinger
(none have tested)

-some Litzingers moved from Germany to Yugoslavia / Serbia. Some of these descendants immigrated to Canada.
spellings: Lutzinger, Litzinger
(none have tested)

-Many currently in the USA descend from:

Conrad Lutzinger/Litzinger, who came from Germany to Pennsylvania, USA in 1753 with his son Leonhard/Leonard Lutzinger/Litzinger. Approximately 250 living males with the Litzinger last name in the USA descend from this father and son.
Spellings: Lutzinger, Litzinger
(9 descendants in the USA have tested)

Johannes Lutzinger/Litzinger/Litsinger, who came from Germany to USA, and settled in Baltimore, Maryland, USA
(Johannes may be a brother or first cousin to Conrad or Leonard Lutzinger - we need one descendant to do a Big Y 700 test)
Spellings: Lutzinger, Litzinger, Litsinger
(1 descendants have tested, but need to upgrade to more markers & one upgrade to Big Y 700)

John Michael Lutzinger came from Germany to USA in 1738 and settled in the Frederick, MD, USA area
-spellings: Lutzinger, Litzinger, Lutsinger, Letsinger
(two descendants have tested, but upgrading to Big Y 700 will determine if they connect to any other branches further back in time)

Philip Christian Litzsinger born 1795 in Neesbach, Germany (SE of Limburg) or Nassau Germany (between Koblenz and Limburg) who came from Germany to St. Louis, Missouri, USA in about 1844.
They might be closely related to others in Germany and the Conrad Litzinger descendants in the USA as well. Need 1 or 2 males from this line to test. and one to do a Big Y 700 to determine if they are a branch down from Mathias.
(no descendants have tested yet)
-spellings: Litzsinger

Johann/John Litzinger who came to North Dakota, USA. Descended from Burghart Adam Litzinger b.~1763. Originally in Prussia/Germany and then in Russia for a time, before coming to the USA in 1914.
