The study of Genealogy is to find how closely related we are. We are all related to "Genetic Adam". Haplo groups or types are men that pack a unique DNA marker that generates from them down thru all their male offspring. Thus men, that have a unique marker that can be traced, basically fork or branch the family tree. Lightbody's are I1 as of right now, we are testing for another possible 2 branches I1c or I1d. To make this easier think of I as John I. John I has a special DNA marker that seperates him from his sons Bill I1 and Bob I2. All males below both sons can trace individuals. These differences are called DNA mutations. Thus each I number branch the family tree. I is one man, I1 is another I1a is another man and so on. You know you can't be related to anyone that is not the same Haplo type. So an I and J are not from the same direct line, however I and J are still related because both are sons of Genetic Adam.

Many different Surnames could have come from I1. Lightbody being only one of those surnames.
