About us

To better determine the German and or Swiss ancestry groups represented and compare European DNA matches for regional origins.

The general fund is currently focused on underwriting Big-Y testing of the various member (and new member) Light family lines (and related Germanic surnames e.g. Lichty, Liechti et al). Goal for 2024: fund one Big-Y kit or upgrade for a descendant of the Jacob Light of the Conestogoe (d. 1762 m. Barbara), about $325 (or much less) remaining to be raised. It would be fitting to remember Allen Light (see post on feed dated Dec 19) with a contribution as this is his paternal line. Although we are nonprofit in our purpose, you must consult with your tax advisor regarding any deductibility. Click General Fund DONATE in the left column and thank you for supporting us!
This goal was met early in the year ('24).  And the tester is one of our Big-Y matches!

We have identified three more lines from which we hope to find descendants to test Big Y (or at least Y-37-111).

  1. A descendant of (Johan) Jacob Leighty, b. 7 Nov 1748 (speculated as Prussia) d. of Fayette Co., PA.
(See The Genealogy of the Jacob Leighty family of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, Floyd Harold Leighty, Sr., Mary Gladys (Tucker) Leighty, Tulsa, Oklahoma : F.H. Leighty, Sr., 1980)
  2. A descendant of Solomon Leighty, b. 20 Oct 1799, PA, or his ancestor (Hans) Anthoni Liechti, b. 1702 Ürkheim, Aargau CH, d. "Antoni Lichtel" 12 Dec 1777, Montgomery Co., PA. (See Solomon Leighty, Before and After: a Family History from 1530-2003, James C. Leighty, Marilyn S. Leighty, Grand Ledge, Michigan : J.C. Leighty, c2003.)  (We've just found a family descendant and sent a message... but now to identify a male in the line.)
(These lines have not been proven to be related even though they do have the location of Fayette in common.)
  3. Joseph Light, d. 1733, Lancaster, PA through a possible son Henry.  Joseph is possibly same as Joseph Liechti b. 1687, Uber-Mistleren, Bern, Switzerland.
