Edward Kneeland Lineage:

Edward Kneeland of Ipswich (b. abt 1640) is listed by SFK as having been born in Ipswich.  Early Massachusetts records generally list him as Edward Nealon, with assorted spelling variations, and consistently refer to him as an Irishman.  No birth record is found in Massachusetts Vital Records to 1850 series under Ipswich or any of the adjoining towns.  An alternative theory, actually published by SFK in an abbreviated work prior to his 1897 genealogy, is that Edward was born in Ireland, abducted, along with two other young lads, by an English sea captain, brought to Massachusetts, and sold into indentured servitude.  This theory is further supported by court records showing Edward was declared a freeman at a time consistent with the completion of the period of indentured servitude.

From Edward’s will and other documents, he is known to have had 4 sons: John, Benjamin, Edward & Phillip.
