Hi Judith? I was reading your posts and I have had my brother tested, waiting for the Y-700 to come in any day! His haplogroup was CTS4466, and 23andMe is R-Z16521. Looking for any info on my 3 or 4th great grandfather Owen Sullivan, native of Kenmare, County Kerry.

The new Y 700 results will give a more accurate haplogroup. My understanding is 23 and me is slightly different when assiging haplotypes, cause the haplotype is based on autosomal dna. Example... I tested myself at 23 and me Mtdna and it shows me as J1b1a2. My full sequence with Ftdna has me as J1b1a1b. CTS4466 is the SNP that defines the Irish Type II subclade. My dad was R-Z16521, then changed to RZ16529 after the upgrade to Y 111. Then the upgrade to Y 700 failed, and haplogroup changed to RZ16518. Dad was sent a new kit and we just sent it in 2 days ago. It will be interesting to see what haplotype Dad is now. Looking at the Y colorised chart, Looks like about 16 of us are in the CTS4466 grouping with slight different mutations. I have no Owen at this time in my line that I know of yet.

Hello. Helping my brother Barry with all this. Our father was a foster child who never knew his real parents. Long story short..He did the YDNA and the surname was overwhelmingly Buckley.I also had some Ancestry matches associated with Buckley so I figured we were on the right path. The research I have done points to Killarney with a Daniel Buckley (1800 or 1805) and a Hanora Foran or Forhane. Other names associated from the DNA family tree are Fitzgerald, Sloan, possibly Lynch. Barry matches Jack Buckley from Millstreet Cork. Jack and I have spoken.

...... cont'd Sorry Jim hit wrong key, just wondering if you have her in your tree. I've joined this project because my male O'Connor line comes from Kerry Co, specifically Castlegregory and environs. Most of the people reported as at the top of my matches, whom I have contacted, have failed to reply so far.

Hi Jim + whanau (family), thanks for your message. I just have another question. Do you feel that you got value after doing the Y-111 dna upgrade?

Hi Kevin, Judith again. We Did Dads Y dna in steps plus a snp test. Upgrading to Y 111 Dad has no matches. At they Y 67, Dad has 93 matches. He still has the same dna match at a 0 gentic distance. This has been helpful in taking my family line back another generation.

just joined the group. My Fitzgerald's are from Ballynavenooragh, near Dingle. We're M-222 and I have a pretty good paper list of family from churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie. Am always looking for DNA connections to explore.

I am R-L21on my father's side. His family lived at Muingaphuca, near Curragh Lake, County Kerry. Paternal name is ORiordan. (NB: A few weeks following my birth, I was adopted by an English family. It is only in the past two years that I have made contact with my birth family and confirmed my ancestry. My Irish passport now names me as James O'Sullivan---O'Sullivan being my mother's family name. My biological parents did marry in an attempt to regain custody of me. I have 2 Irish-raised sisters.

Did you order a Y-DNA kit James? They sent you out a kit on the 24th of May 2017, but they did not get the kit back? Did you take the test?

Just joined this project and want to say "Hello!" The Courtenay/Courtney surname project says I am a Courtney/O'Cournane from County Kerry (some probably from the Killarney area). All of my lines end up in Maine (U.S.A.) but go through the Atlantic Provinces of Canada on their trek from Ireland. Hope to connect with some cousins here!
