My great grandmother was Margaret Keating, born in County Clare in the Loop Head Peninsula area. Her father was Martin Keating, a farmer in County Clare. Margaret married John Lillis. Margaret's brother Sinon Keating married John's sister Margaret Lillis - producing two families of double first cousins. Many of the Sinon Keating family emigrated to New Jersey in the early 1900s. My kit is T760102.

Kathy Keatting-Hull - I just tried to run your kit against mine but gedmatch says that your kit is private and can not be used for any comparisons. You'd have to change it to public for any of us to see if there are linkages.

Just beginning my Keeton line research. My mother was a Keeton from Illinois/MO. Any others who have info on this line in Illinois (right on the Mississippi River across from Lincoln county area in MO?

Laura, welcome to the “family.” Do you happen to know any of her male KEETON ancestors’s first names or info? Do you have any living male KEETON relatives who might be willing to do Y-DNA testing? Thanks! Tim (kit#B66781)

To Tim and David Keaton, we are so closely connected in terms of our common BY186234 haplogroup that it would be interesting to compare our knowledge of our origins in Ireland. Have you any information of your family origins prior to arriving in America.

Hello! David Keaton is my uncle, and I manage his kit. I wish I had info prior to arriving in the colonies - its been pretty elusive so far!

Hi Kelly, Do you have an arrival date and place in America and possibly a place of origin in Ireland? The cause of emigration would also be informative. Many left Ireland following the Siege of Limerick that effectively ended the Jacobite war in Ireland.

No, unfortunately. My earliest known Keaton (that I can be reasonably certain of) is my 4th great grandfather William Keaton, born 1785 in Virginia. Some have him as the son of another William Keaton, born in 1758 in Virginia, and the grandson of Julius Keeton, born in 1735 in Ireland. No idea if that is true.

I have traced a number of descendants from my earliest known Keating ancestors to Australia and the United States. The earliest of these emigrants was James Keating transported for life to Australia in 1836 for streaming sheep in Cork. He ended up in Campbelltown NSW and was followed there by the rest of his family in 1849 after he was pardoned. A letter descendant, William Birmingham Keating, a distant cousin of the above James emigrated to Melbourne in 1883. Those that went to America ended up in Buffalo NY and Cook County, Illinois.

I have completed a Big Y500 DNA test (Kit B307165). My terminal haplogroup is R-BY186234. I have traced my oldest known ancestors through 7 generations to the 1760s in the townland of Ballinguyroe South in the parish of Farahy near Kikdorrery, north county Cork. I am particularly in tracing the origins of the Keatings prior to their arrival in Ireland in 1169 from Pembrokeshire in Wales. They were closely associated in both Pembrokeshire and later in Ireland with the Flemish Fitz Godebert (later changed to Roche) and Prendergast families who were amongst the earliest invaders who came to Ireland at the invitation of Diarmuid MacMurchada, King of Leinster. My interest is to confirm the Flemish origin of the Keatings, by comparing their DNA with the Roches, Prendergasts and Barrys that also came to Ireland from Flanders via England and Wales in the 11th and 12th centuries. I would like some assistance in verifying this quest.

Does anyone have Keating ancestry in Australia, particularly in North Queensland, especially Cooktown? My Great Grandmother was Annie Keating, who married George Inkerman Smith, who was a police officer at Coen in North Queensland.

Is anyone a (documented or strongly-supposed) male-line descendant of John KEETON/KEATON, a burgess from Nansemond County, Virginia in 1698 (will probated in Chowan County, North Carolina in 1704)? If so, have you done any Y-DNA and/or FF testing? Same question for male-line descendants of Henry KEETON/KEATON, a Quaker from Pasquotank North Carolina, who died in 1715? Also, any Derbyshire, England KEETONs? My kit# is B66781 and GEDmatch#s are: A308576 and M284212. YFull# YF15895.

Tim, did you see a new match came in on 12/19 with your same earliest known ancestor? Robert Anthony Keeton.
Tim Keeton
December 20 @ 6:28am
Thanks! Kit#469271 is my brother. Where did you see him just show up 12/19 as a match? He has not tested as extensively on FTDNA as I have, but he has the much more thorough family tree. I recently updated his MDKA here, and also got him moved to be with me (and David) on project lists, because even though he shows as R-A14 (since he has not done Big Y 500), he should be an exact match to me.

I don’t remember. LOL But it must have been at lower marker level, which explains why haplogroup was different.

Kelly/David - I have upgraded to Big Y 700 today for the discounted price (available until March 31) of $179.00. After 3/312019, it will be $249.00 for Big Y 500 to upgrade to Big Y 700 (in case David is interested).
