About us

1) Identify the mtDNA haplogroup for Jane Yates.
ONGOING: The mtDNA results from two matrilineal descendants document where their mtDNA falls under H13a1a with three additional mutations: 11794C, 16335G and 8701A! (this last is a mutation back to its ancestral value).
Both of these individuals descend from Betsey Main (1796-1880) so we can only state with certainty where Betsey herself had all of these mutations. mtDNA rarely mutates, so it is likely Jane Yates herself may have had all three mutations, but we cannot be certain of this until we discover a matrilineal descendant from another daughter of Jane.

The primary goal of this mtDNA lineage project is to identify the mtDNA haplogroup of the family as well as document the matrilineal (direct female-line) descendants of Jane. Ideally, the project would like to have full mtDNA results from matrilineal descendants of every surviving daughter of Jane.

Additionally, William and Jane Collier have been linked to Sarah, wife of Nathaniel Warren. Nathaniel Warren and Sarah Walker were married in Plymouth 19 Nov 1645. It is believed she was the Sara, daughter of William Walker who was baptized St. Olave's Southwork 10 Nov 1622. It is still unresolved the relationship (if any) between Jane and Sarah. Testing matrilineal descendants of Sarah WALKER Warren would determine whether Sarah's mtDNA matched Jane's. (Betsey descends from Sarah's daughter Elizabeth Collier who married Deacon Constant Southworth.)
