The purpose of this project is to help Isle Madame descendants construct their family lines, verify existing research conducted by members of the Isle Madame/Richmond County genealogy group, identify Isle Madame haplogroups, discover the origins of Isle Madame surnames, and create a repository for Isle Madame DNA data. The DNA findings will assist in filling in the gaps where no documentation exists. Examining the DNA signatures of the island’s descendants may reveal historical implications and help create a more rounded understanding of local history and culture.
