About us
Objectives for the Isaac Cummings Family Y-DNA Project include the following:
n To conduct Y-DNA tests of men representing families with strong research records suggesting descendancy from Isaac Cummings (1601-1677).
n To establish a baseline of genetic markers at the 67-marker level and above that provide reliable genetic patterns carried through time by Isaac’s male descendants on their Y Chromosomes.
n To use these patterns, which amount to an “ancestral genetic signature” of Isaac’s direct, unbroken male lines, to prove or disprove biological relationships to Isaac.
n To identify Y-DNA markers for the various branches of Isaac’s descendant male lines and organize them when possible into definable groups and lineages.
n To use Y-DNA matches among the project’s tested men to compare and share information about Isaac Cummings’various family lines that can help to identify participants’ most common recent ancestors.
n To provide a genetic genealogy companion to ICFA’s traditional research database to provide combined historical and genetic data that may enable the matching of Y-DNA profiles to known historic genealogies and family trees.
n To use the project's interpretative results and genetic matches as tools to help members fill gaps in their family research.
n To scientifically explore the deeper genetic roots of Isaac Cummings’ male ancestors and relatives to determine possible connections to English, Scottish, French and other definable families and groups.
