Indonesia is a country with a diverse ethnic heritage and rich family traditions. It lies on the intersection of geological plates, with heavy seismic and volcanic activity. This project will gather DNA data that can help families build family trees and reconnect with lost family members. The data can also be used to learn more about the migration patterns and genetic origins of Indonesian who settled among more than 17,000 islands of the Indonesia archipelago. All men and women who have full or partially Indonesian ancestry are welcome to join. Our goal is to gather paternal (Y-DNA), maternal (mt-DNA) and autosomal data from individuals of Indonesian ancestry, which can be used to help reconnect extended families, help Indonesian to learn about their ancestors, and to educate others about the history of Indonesia.
