About us
The Hutton surname project (also referred to as the Hutton group) is open to the surnames of Hutton, Hadden, Hattan, Hatten, Hatton, Heaton, Hooton, Haughton, Houghton, Huttan, Hutten, or any derivative of Hutton. One participant traces his roots to Adam de Hoton of Hutton Hall circa 1272. This is primarily a YDNA group but we do have some members with mtDNA and Family Finder results.
We welcome new members. There is a join request to participate so that a prospective member may be assured that joining the Hutton project will be beneficial. If one has participated in another group or another testing facility and meets the above criteria, please co-join and/or transfer. There are two group administrators to help you overcome brick walls and to share their knowledge.
Here is a short history of the Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) Hutton project. It started with the recruitment of six participants. By mid October, 2003, the first participant's results were completed. The Hutton and Hatton projects were combined for a brief period. On 2 July 2012, the current Hutton project was initiated and certain members in the Hatton – Hutton project transferred to the new project.
