About us

2nd June 2008: Results for our first participant.

26th November 2008: Results for our 2nd participant confirm that he is closely related to the 1st participant.

25th December 2008: All three participants so far descend from Johann Ulrich Hubschmid (1809-1882) who lived in Madiswil BE, Switzerland.

8th June 2009: A gentleman with Heimatort Rüderswil BE has joined the project.

31st August 2009: Y-DNA analysis shows that Hubschmid from Madiswil BE and Hubschmid from Rüderswil BE are far genetically related. But there isn't any relationship in genealogical time frame.

1st September 2009: A gentleman with Heimatort Hedingen ZH has joined the project.

4th September 2009: A gentleman with Heimatort Affoltern am Albis ZH has joined the project.

6th September 2009: The surname project has changed its name to Hubschmid, Hufschmid. Also people with the spelling Hufschmid are welcomed to the project.

22nd October 2009: The first gentleman with the surname Hufschmid and the Heimatort Hauenstein SO will take part in the project.

5th November 2009: Only a genetic distance of 4 on 37 markers makes it probable that Hubschmid from Madiswil BE (since 1644) descend from Hubschmid from Hedingen ZH (archival records since 1454).

19th November 2009: Hubschmid from Hedingen ZH match in all 37 markers with Hubschmid from Affoltern am Albis ZH. This confirms genealogical research that at the end of 18th century Hubschmid from Hedingen branched to Affoltern am Albis.

26th November 2009: A Mr Hubschmid and a Mr Hufschmid, each one from Niederwil AG, have joined the project.

27th November 2009: A Mr Hufschmid from Diegten BL will take part in the project.

21st February 2010: A second participant from Rüderswil BE has close matches with Hubschmid from Hedingen ZH and Affoltern am Albis ZH (only a genetic distance of 1!) and with Hubschmid from Madiswil BE (genetic distance of 3). This supports the found notice on a Hubschmid family crest from Rüderswil: "Hedingen 1510".

Probably the great-grandfather (difficult childhood) of the first participant from Rüderswil BE (Kit # 154487) or an ancestor in the father-line of the former was born as a cuckoo child. Only this assumption can explain the differences in the genes of the two participants from Rüderswil.

10th March 2010: A new participant, a Mr Hufschmid from Trimbach SO has sent his kit.

13th April 2011: The project continues of course. But me myself I am not looking any more for new participants. Male Hubschmid/Hufschmid interested in a Y-DNA test please contact me: stefan_hubschmid@hotmail.com .
