About us
Research group for the surname Horrich / Horick and all variants.
There is a possibility that all the surnames originate from Heinricus de Horuck / Horeck.
He seals in Gangelt near Heerlen, Limburg in 1271.

Because of the language and because limburg was close to Brabant (Holland) and close to Germany and close to Belgium..

My theory (and research conclusion so far after 6 years):
The surname splits up, according to region/language/local dialects, and becomes:
* horik/horck(s) / hoorick /hurk? in BRABANT/HoLLAND and more often with VAN horik etc.. for example in Someren (Brabant), everything is Van Horick
* horrigh(s)/ horrich(s)/horch/horich in Southern Limburg (for example the dutch word for church, =kerk in Dutch and =kirch in South limburg (more germanic)) and over the border in SW Germany
* horricks/horicks/horicx/horix in central limburg/nederweert, where alot of surnames get an additional S behind
(other examples of the +S: houtappel becomes houtappels in Nederweert, and peltzer becomes pelsers)
Heinricus in 1271 also has a simular coat of arms as the nobel Horrich/Horch line in Germany, however heinricus only has 4 crosses and the 1500 Horrich have 12..
So also the nobel Horrich line is (likely) descendant from this Heinricus de Horuck.
My (the Nederweert Horix) branch, probably started very early, because Godefridus van Horick was already in Leveroy (close to Nederweert) in 1386.
