My great grandfather Abraham Hurwitz came to South Africa from(somewhere in) Russia in the early 1900's, I believe. He married Hannah "Chana" Elin, who I've come to learn was Yelinger and later changed to Elin - im not sure whether they got married in the old country but they raised their family in Johannesburg, South Africa. I'm not sure of his father's name, it could've been Yaakov. We are of the Levi tribe, and our tradition is to NOT EAT TURKEY(anyone else with this custom?). Any info would be awesome!
This is a picture of Moses Orowitz (Horowitz;Orovitz) and his wife Pessie/Bessie Belenky and their 2 children Eli Maurice Orowitz and Michael Orowitz. There are also 2 sisters not in the photo-Elizabeth and Ruth (Rachel). Moses' parent are Mordecai Orowitz and Channa Belenkey. I can't seem to go any further than that because their families were from Tetiev and the fires burned all records. Just wondering if anyone else has relations to this family
My great-grandparents Morris Horowitz and Eva Brodsky who arrived in the U.S. in the early 1890s. Morris was born in Odessa. Eva was born in Vilna. My grandfather's name was Barney Horwitz, born in New York City in 1896. He had several older siblings, most born in Kiev in the 1880s/1890s. Eva died circa 1898, and Morris died in 1912. I've been unable to find the descendants of my grandfather's siblings. If either of these people look familiar, or if you think we might be Horowitz cousins, please let me know.
