About us

The goals of the Hill Surname Project are as follows:

1) Compare and contrast our DNA test results with the DNA of other participants to define the different Hill lines as Groups
2) Encourage collaboration and the sharing of knowledge with one another
3) Encourage the validation or correction of participant lineages that may or may not have been researched correctly by traditional means
4) With all of the above, discourage the dissemination of questionable research that has been proven incorrect by DNA*

*Note that the HILL surname (presently being the 33rd most common surname in the United States) has a lot of family histories that have been passed around for many decades that have been either supported or challenged constantly by researchers. When DNA testing came on the scene, some of the old family histories were either validated or proven wrong. Unfortunately, when information is proven wrong, it is very hard to correct it. The information can reside in family histories for decades and continue to be passed around and perpetuated. Keep in mind that DNA is always correct, but the research attached to our Kit numbers is sometimes wrong and is often a work in progress. You may even find lineage in one Group that appears in another....Groups that have been proven by DNA to be unrelated. We welcome a healthy exchange here among participants, but please be courteous and understand that the reason we are all here is to validate, correct, or improve our family histories.
