About us
Welcome to the Higgins (and variants such as O'Higgins) Surname Y-DNA Project. The combined Higgins/O'Higgins project has its roots in the earliest days of using yDNA to trace patrilineal lineages, starting in about 2003.
We provide a meeting and matching place for people tracing their patrilineal ancestry via the Y-Chromosome for people who share a patrilineal ancestor in the surname-era i.e. the last 700-800 years.
In genealogy research we can often take advantage of the fact that many cultures have used the patrilineal surname system, by testing your family’s Y-DNA.
Please be aware that we only admit members into the project who have taken a y-DNA test: this is because we are primarily a Y-DNA research project.
So, if your father was a Higgins or your Y-Chromosome DNA test result matches are suggesting your surname-era biological patrilineal ancestor may have been a Higgins, then you are in the right place and please request to join us via the "join" button in the above banner heading.
If your surname is not actually Higgins but a variant of it i.e. something sounding quite similar, we can probably accommodate you or at least help you create or find a more relevant project.
